Does Styling Natural Hair Really Have To Take All Day?

June 8, 2011

I watched a YouTube video of a young lady complaining about how long it took to style her hair on wash day. She went on and on about how it took her 4 hours to DO a wash-n-go. That’s four hours NOT including washing, conditioning, and detangling. I couldn’t believe my ears. Maybe I could wrap my head around this if she had long Rustic Beauty hair, but she doesn’t.

This video got me wondering… how much of the time we spend on our hair really necessary? Don’t get me wrong, I know that caring for and styling natural hair can be time consuming, but where do we draw the line? How many steps in our hair care regimen are unnecessary and can be eliminated? Share your thoughts.

I stumbled on this DOPE picture of Lauryn Hill that I just had to share with you all. It was taken at her last concert in Detroit (at which she announced she was expecting baby number six). There is something powerful about this image that is hard to put into words… Its so dope.

Solange Knowles Is The New Face Of Rimmel London

June 7, 2011

In addition to being a spokesperson for Carol’s Daughter, Solange Knowles is now the face of Rimmel London. This isn’t just another J.O.B. for Solange. Representing women of color for Rimmel’s upcoming Fall campaign is an opportunity that she doesn’t take lightly.

“I am very careful of ever putting the role model tag on my shoulders. I am human and I am expected to have imperfections and make mistakes,” said Solange. “However, if there are positive things I do that inspire or influence people I feel like my purpose as a person is that much more fulfilled. When I announced my role with Rimmel, I felt really proud to see such a positive response especially being that I represent someone of color, a single mom, an artist…and that I don’t have to compromise my views to do so!”

Solange looks absolutely stunning her ads. Share your thoughts.
